Inky purple. Dark cherry, cigar box and vanilla on the nose, along with subtle hints of cracked pepper and dried flowers. Supple and sweet, with gentle tannins framing ripe cassis, cherry and plum flavors. As rich as this is, it's not heavy, and a light touch of acidity adds lift to the finish. Impressively sweet, focused and long on the close, with the cherry note repeating.

Feb 2007 – The 2001 Reserva is the best of these wines. It offers an attractive perfume of cedar, spice box, earth, black cherry, and blackberry. Medium-bodied with a velvety palate-feel, the wine has excellent depth and concentration in a traditional Rioja style. The finish is long and pure. Drink this elegant effort over the next 5-7 years.
